What are the changes? • Any member may report programs data • $ 21.79 per hour, not whatever you want to report * • $.14 cents per mile not whatever you want to report * • More program categories to select from • Reminder: As with Paper Reports, VAVS hours are not reported in this system * A consortium of over 500 volunteer organizations relies on the formulas of the Independent Secor. (The Dept. of Veterans Affairs also uses this criteria to account for and report VAVS hours.) Currently the figure is $19.51 for volunteer hours. (Uncompensated workers.) And the mileage is determined by the IRS guidelines that authorize standard Volunteer Mileage Expense deductions, which is currently .14 cents.
Frequently Ask Questions • Question: Is there something in writing about what to report and not report? • It is impossible to put in writing everything that “should not” be reported; the list could become very lengthy. There needs to be some common sense applied based on our objective. • AMVETS should not be spending time trying to speculate, look for “what” can I personally report; AMVETS should be executing programs that serve veterans and the greater community. • AMVETS is non-sectarian and non-partisan! Our “individual” volunteer efforts and/or financial support for charities, people running for any office or for specific religious affiliations, are just that – an individual choice. Because we personally happen to be members of the VFW, the Boy Scouts of America, the Rotary, a Church, and AMVETS, it does not qualify these personal choices as service and financial assistance in the name of AMVETS Program hours and value. • Neither hours nor expenses for maintaining post homes, department offices or travel for attending/participating in any type of meeting IS NOT to be reported. (These are not AMVETS Programs!)
