  2. http://www.culpeperschools.org/kwalter/us.jpg Civil War • Start of the Civil war: April 12, 1861 • Was started with the secession of South Carolina, and imposing its attack upon Fort Sumter. • First Shot fired on April 12, 1861. They where soon followed by other states later on.

Alliances of the Confederacy • Since the confederacy was more agricultural, into growing cotton and such, they traded their profits for weapons and reinforcements unlike the Union that could manufacture all of theirs. • This made the Confederacy ally with France and Britain. Since they would rather prefer the USA be divided because of it’s increasing power.

Battle at Fort Sumter • Occurred on April 12, 1861 • Happened in Fort Sumter, South Carolina. • Major Anderson Commanded the Union army. • General Beauregard Commanded the Confederate army. • Two days went on without any casualties. • Major Anderson surrendered on April 14th , South Carolina was granted with it’s port once again. http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/treasures/images/at0042b.1s.jpg

  9. First Battle of Bull Run • Occurred on July 21, 1861 • Was fought in Manassas, Virginia. Was fought by a river(Occoquan River). • Brigadier General Irvin McDowell Commanded the Union army. • General Beauregard Commanded the Confederate army. • Casualties: Confederates: 1,982 Union: 2,896 • The Union and Confederates now saw how big the wars impact was going to be. • Colonel Jackson also got the nickname Stonewall Jackson, for being able to hold Confederate ground against the Union while B.   10. Battle of Gettysburg • Occurred on July 1-3, 1863 • Happened in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania • Major General George Meade Commanded the Union army. • General Robert E.   11. 2nd Battle of Fort Fisher • Occurred January 13-15, 1865. • Happened in Fort Fisher, NC • Major General Alfred Terry Commanded the Union army. • Major General W.H.C Whiting Commanded the Confederate army forces at Fort Fisher. • Casualties Union: 1338 Confederate: 583 • The Union got control of the final open port on the east coast for the confederates, which would lead to them being shot down from supplies. http://www.amazing-planet.net/slike/american-civil-war-art/battle_of_fort_fisher.jpg

  12. Battle of Appomattox Courthouse • Occurred on April 9, 1865 • Happened in Appomattox Courthouse, VA • Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant Commanded the Union army. • General Robert E. Lee Commanded the Confederate troops. • Casualties Union:16 4 Confederate:500 & 27800 • This was the surrender of the Confederates, as they signed a treaty not imprisoning their soldiers for treason, or any sort of punishment. http://www.framery.com/SaluteOfHonor.jpg

Monitor: Fully Armored, rotating gun turret. C.S.S. North Carolina: Ironclad war ship • Railroad One of many ways to transport goods. The Confederates, had many less than the Union had.   17. Civil War affect on America’s future • By America being able to stay as a whole after the war, it just made them stronger to thrive. So afterwards, America was able to thrive further, and so on be able to succeed in almost anything needed. The war was needed to be able to keep the nation as one, and become even more advanced and powerfull.

  18. Final surrender occurred on June 23, 1865 The surrender occurred in Appomattox Courthouse, there where still small battles in all over the U.S, but this was the official surrender. General Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, P.G.T.Beauregard, est. There where many other Generals for the confederates. General Phil Sheridan, Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, George Armstrong Custer, George McClellan, and Admiral David Farragut where the Union generals. This surrender was able to re unite, the U.S to make it a leader country once again, and continue to thrive.
