Embedded Frames This is a little tricky so pay attention!
Creating Embedded Frames • Here is an example of an embedded frame. • Notice that the screen is divided into rows and columns. • You must write an additional “Frame Definition” and EMBED it into your original “Frame Definition”.
How to Embed a Frame… • Using the layout to the right, we first have to decide how to divide the entire screen. • Is the whole browser window divided into two rows or into two columns? • Is it correct to say that the browser window is divided first into two rows and that the second row is divided into two columns -or-Is the browser window divided into two columns and the first column divided into two rows? • The correct answer is on the next slide….
Embedded Frames cont. • The browser window is divided first into two rows and then the second row is divided into two columns. Row 1 Row 2
Embedded Frames cont. • Now to write the code. • First I will write the simple code two divide the window into two rows. <FRAMESET Rows=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page1.html” NAME=“top”><FRAME SRC=“Page2.html” NAME=“Bottom”></FRAMESET>
Embedded Frames Cont. • Then I will write the code for the two columns. <FRAMESET Rows=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page1.html” NAME=“top”><FRAME SRC=“Page2.html” NAME=“Bottom”></FRAMESET> <FRAMESET COLS=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page2.html” NAME=“left”> <FRAME SRC=“Page3.html” NAME=“right”></FRAMESET> The one for Rows The one for Columns
Embedded Frames Cont. • Now I need to embed the Columns into the second row. • First, I need to delete the <FRAME SRC> for the second row. <FRAMESET Rows=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page1.html” NAME=“top”></FRAMESET> <FRAMESET COLS=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page2.html” NAME=“left”> <FRAME SRC=“Page3.html” NAME=“right”></FRAMESET> This line has been deleted.
Embedded Frames Cont. • Now I simply move my Frameset for the columns into the empty line that I just deleted. <FRAMESET Rows=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page1.html” NAME=“top”> <FRAMESET COLS=“20%, 80%”> <FRAME SRC=“Page2.html” NAME=“left”> <FRAME SRC=“Page3.html” NAME=“right”> </FRAMESET> </FRAMESET> Here it is moved into place
Embedded Frameset code…. • Notice the Frameset Embedded within the original Frameset This is the frame which divides the screen into ROWS. This is the “Embedded Frame” that divides the bottom row into 2 COLUMNS.
Assignment… • Finish the Frames assignment number 5, 6 and 7. • Show the instructor the work when you are done.
