Did You Know? • 65.5 million people over the age of 16 volunteer each year, for a total of 3.2 billion hours • This saves agencies and non-profits $23.2 billion annually • 22% of millennials volunteer, compared to 30% of baby boomers and 26% of veterans • The most common volunteer causes are Religion, Education and Youth Service • Collecting Food and Fundraising are the most common types of volunteerism • Women volunteer at a higher rate than men across all age groups, educational levels and other major demographic characteristics • Proven benefits of volunteering include an increased sense of well-being and self-esteem, decreased risk of depression and a sense of purpose Source: Estimate based on 2013 Bureau of Labor Statistics Data
