Welcome to the Transition Maidenhead LEAF Funding event “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Margaret Mead
Introduction • History of TTM • Updates on Activity • LEAF Project update • Hydropower talk • Arts Project Update Agenda
“A community-led process aiming to create small-scale local responses to the global challenges of: • Climate Change • Economic hardship • Shrinking supplies of cheap energy (oil)” What is a ‘Transition Town’ Initiative? http://youtu.be/KYQyCMb9WgY
To catalyse action within the community that encourages the development of resilient, sustainable and local systems • Development of a 20 year ‘Energy Decent Action Plan’ What’s the Aim?

Local Energy Assessment Fund: “Aims to resource work by community groups to understand their potential for improvements in energy efficiency and local deployment of renewable energy.” What is LEAF funding?
Why was the Grant given to us? • We focused on two buildings that are very different, located in two opposite areas of the Borough but serving community needs that otherwise would not be met. They are run as ‘not for profit’ organisations. • The community buildings cater for multi-occupancy work successfully and at different levels (children, the elderly, adults community groups, teenagers and young adults activities, etc) so an architectural assessment on the space planning and possible future refurbishment and extensions to accommodate the demands. • The buildings would be studied in relation to their current energy use and service systems (i.e. hot water, heating, lighting etc), the characteristics of the building fabric (i.e. wall, floor, roof construction, windows and doors etc.) their orientation and location and their patterns of occupancy.

Energy Savings - Energy Efficiency- Renewable Energy (+ FITs)- Renewable Heat (+ RHI)
£500 Example Project – Scout Hut £5,000 £6,500 Before – Bills = £4,000 After – Bills = £2,000
Total Costs = £12,000 Energy Savings (+ FIT) = £2,000 Example Project – Scout Hut Therefore 6 year payback
