Device Design • Generator • Wood, magnet wire, nail, and magnets. • Fan Blade • Windmill support • Wooden structure
Electrical and Mechanical Aspects • The electrical aspect consists of the generator. • Magnets spin inside wire coils to generate the electricity. • The mechanical aspect consists of the windmill. • Fan blade connected to the generator by a block of wood and a nail. • Spins magnets to light up the light bulb.
Windmill Efficiency • Voltage - .7V • Current - 12.5mA • Power = IV = .00875 W • KE = .5ρAv³ = .5(1.204)(π(.165)2)(9)3 = 37.54W • Efficiency = .00875/37.54 x 100 = .023%
Construction Problems • Generator • Not enough wire used. Unable to generate the proper voltage needed. • Fan blades • PVC pipes • Magnets were heavy which made it hard to come up with a design to spin them fast enough.
Conclusion • Enough magnet wire now allows our generator to produce up to 1.5 Volts. • Proper positioning of windmill blade. • Blade spins better at certain points of the wind source.
