Course Summary • Human Computer Interaction is concerned with • the man-machine Interaction through various interfaces. • Every system equipped with a microprocessor has some kind of user interface for its operation; • this is particularly for those systems that require lots of interaction for its normal operation: i.e. computers and computer programs.
Course Main Goals • To introduce basic concepts of HCI • To provide an understanding of applications of HCI • To discuss the concepts of User Psychology. • To provide an understanding of Interaction Styles. • To understand the need of Windowing Systems, Iconic Messages.
Course Outcome • Background to human-computer interaction. • Underpinnings from psychology and cognitive science, Evaluation techniques, • Heuristic evaluation, Videotaped user testing; cognitive walkthroughs, Task analysis, User-centered design, • Conceptual models and metaphors, Designing interfaces: Coding techniques using color, fonts, sound, animation, • Screen layout, response time, feedback, error messages, Designing interfaces for special devices, Use of voice I/O, • Expressing design rationale for user interface design.

Evaluation • Final Exam: 50% • Mid-term Exam: 30% • Attendence: 5% • Assignments/ Quizzes : 10% • Project: 5%
Operating Rules • Regular attendance is expected. At least 75% attendance is required to appear for final examination. If you are late in the class more than 5 minutes, you will be marked absent. • All missed exams, assignments and quizzes will be assigned a grade of "0". No assignments will be accepted after the due date and treated as missed. • Plagiarism is the presentation of another person's work or ideas as if they were one's own.A grade of "0" for an Examination, Quiz or Assignment or "F" for the course may be assigned if cheating or plagiarism has taken place.
