Fuel costings • Length of journey 6400km’s • Approximately 550km’s per tank • Fuel cost on average $100 per tank • 12 fuel stops • Total fuel cost equals $1200 • Fuel stops at Balranald, Broken Hill, Bulloo Downs, Innamincka, Birdsville, Bedourie, Normanton, Julia Creek, Stonehenge, Durham, Tibooburra and Mildura.

  5. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 1,Saturday 12th March 2011 • Leave Melbourne and stop at Balranald after 430 kilometres into our trip for petrol and continue to travel another 120 kilometres to stop at Mildura for the night.

  6. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 2, Sunday 13th March 2011 • Leave from Mildura travel through Menindee stopping for lunch and petrol and then onto Broken Hill where we will stay for the night.

  7. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 3, Monday 14th March 2011 • Leave Broken Hill and head 330 kilometres to Tibooburra for lunch and then onto Bulloo Downs which is just inside the Queensland Border where we will stay, sleep and refuel.

  8. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 4, Tuesday 15th March 2011 • Leave Bulloo Downs and drive 270 kilometres to a town called Innamincka which is just inside the South Australian border. Here we will top up fuel and head back into Queensland and stay at Birdsville.

  9. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 5, Wednesday 16th March 2011 • Leave Birdsville and travel to Bedourie where we will top the fuel up and drive straight through to Boulia and stay the night.

  10. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 6, Thursday 17th March 2011 • Leave Boulia and drive 330 kilometres to Cloncurry where we will stay, so we can leave early in the morning to head for Normanton.

  11. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 7, Friday 18th March 2011 • Arrive at Normanton which is in the Gulf of Carpentaria at approximately lunch and 380 kilometres away. Stay for the night, refuel and purchase any supplies needed ready for our trip back home.

  12. Burke and Wills 4x4 Itinerary Day 8, Saturday 19th March 2011 • Leave Normanton and head 450 kilometres south to Julia creek where we will set up camp for the night and refuel.

  13. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 9, Sunday 20th March 2011 • Travel 550 kilometres today to Stonehenge from Julia Creek where again we’ll stay and refuel.

  14. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 10, Monday 21th March 2011 • Leave Stonehenge and drive to Durham which is 495 kilometres away and still in the state of Queensland.

  15. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 11, Tuesday 22th March 2011 • Leave Durham and drive 220 kilometres to Bulloo Downs. Then travel the rest of the day to Tibooburra where we’ll stay for the night and refuel.

  16. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 12, Wednesday 23th March 2011 • Leave Tibooburra and head for Mildura where we will stay for the night before we head home.

  17. Burke and Wills 4x4 ItineraryDay 13, Thursday 24th March 2011 • Leave Mildura for our final 540 km trip back home to Melbourne.

Estimated Time and Cost • My estimated time for my journey is 12 nights and 13 days. • My estimated cost for my journey is: • Cost of petrol = $1200 • Cost of extra food = $600 ($50 per day) • Cost of entry for site fees and permits = $450 • Possible cost of car repairs = $500 Total estimated cost = $2750
