  2. Starter: Have your say! • Who/ what do you like better? • With a show of hands you have to vote for which of the following images you prefer.

  7. Now the class must elect three representatives who will make decisions on behalf of the class. • Make sure that you vote for someone who you trust to make decisions on your behalf. • Now the elected representative must make a decision on behalf of the whole class. • So who/what do you prefer?

  11. We have just looked at two forms of democracy: • Direct democracy; where everybody in society votes on every decision and, • representative democracy; where society elects people to make decisions on our behalf. • What system do you think we have in the UK?

  12. Draw an outline of your MP on the sugar paper and write what qualities they should have around the outline. Consider the following: • How old should the MP be? • Should they be male or female? (Does it matter)? • How many years experience of politics should they have? • What personality should they have? (Friendly, hardworking, ruthless etc). • Should they be from the area that they represent? (E.g. Westminster). • How should they dress? • Should they have a degree, A-levels or no qualifications? • What skills do you think that they should have? (E.g. good at public speaking, can use a computer etc) • Anything else you can think of?
