  9. Results: Identified Themes • Skills of the Mentor • Patient • Informative • Collegial • Supportive • Available

  10. “You were available and continue to be available when I have questions about managing and analyzing the data from the exams. Those questions become fewer or the questions are different because as I master certain aspects of these programs, new things “pop up” for me to think about or ask. “ Faculty Response

  11. “I found myself in great need of instruction on how to develop these. I soon found out that Dr. Axley had this expertise and made appointments with her to learn how to use the “system” including webpage development and to upload into webct. “ Faculty Response

  12. Faculty Response • “Her willingness to problem solve with me helped me learn how to use the technology on my own. Her example has encouraged me to take on the responsibility of developing and teaching an online course for RODP and to apply for the Technology Fellowship Program myself.”

  13. Results: Identified Theme • Access to Resources • Website • Links • Documents providing instruction

  14. Website Repository

  15. Online Resources

  18. Provided me with hands on learning as well as some handouts of written instructions for review in order to learn Respondus or manage and analyze exams using the new system Specific Skills

  19. “I found the narrated PowerPoint very helpful as a teaching tool for students for students in the online research course.” Specific Skill

  20. Results: Identified Themes • Individual Changes • Increased Competence • Mastery • Confident and Independent • Improved Teaching

  21. Faculty Responses • “Each time I learned a bit more and now have just about mastered this set of new knowledge.” • “I have found that my comfort level and competency in “doing” the things you describe has increased significantly.” • “I appreciated your handbook/guide to uploading exams to WebCT. I have referred to this on numerous occasions, which has meant that I have not had to call you directly.” {independence}

  22. Discussion • Technology competence is multi-faceted • Transfer of skill is best with a ‘hands-on’ approach • Future considerations: use a planned approach of ‘bi-weekly’ or ‘monthly’ goals to accomplish outcomes
