Scenario I:Student Evaluation Session • Situation: • You are the faculty physician and you need to conduct a formal evaluation session with your respective student. • Utilize the standardized student evaluation form to discuss the performance of the following students: • Outstanding Student • Mediocre Student • Poor / Failing Student

  3. Scenario I:Student Evaluation Session • Discussion will center on: • Student Evaluation Tool • Methods by which faculty members give feedback to the learner

  4. Scenario II:Physical exam Feedback • Situation: • You are the faculty physician and you are evaluating three students on their heart auscultation skills. You are to give them feedback on their performance. • The following students will be evaluated: • Outstanding Student • Mediocre Student • Poor Student

  5. Scenario II:Physical exam Feedback • Discussion will center on: • How to provide feedback on the learner’s performance • Methods by which faculty members give feedback to the learner

  6. Scenario III:Learner Mistakes Situation: A resident has made a mistake in clinical care for a patient, and has misdiagnosed a myocardial infarction as a musculoskeletal issue. The patient has died. You are the faculty member who is responsible for the resident’s care. You have arrived after the patient has died.

  7. Scenario III:Learner Mistakes • Discussion will center on: • How to decipher what happened in the case by discussing with the resident • How to provide feedback on the learner’s performance • How to ensure that this resident and other residents do not make similar mistakes again
