What is SIMULATION? A modelling technique A model program is designed and implemented using a simulation language This model behaves (approximately) like the real system when the model program is run The inputs or parameters of the model are constructed from observations (usually in the form of probability distribution functions) The outputs are statistical reports
Why use a Simulation Model? • Test a new idea • use the model to design the real system • see what happens if changes are made on the system • Measure the performance of a system • Conduct experiments if it is expensive to use the real system
