Entry Fee/Eligibility • There will be a $25 Entry and $25 forfeit fee • Must be a full time undergrad/grad/law student. Alumni may participate but must sign up at RecSports. In addition, any team with alumni may not play for points and may only have one alumni per team. • ONE ALUMNI PER TEAM. If you wish to have more than one alumni, you must petition the BEFORE THE SEASON BEGINS Intramural Advisory Council. • If you participated with a varsity team you may not participate in IM’s for one year after you leave the team
Eligibility • You may only participate on one team. • People graduating at semester are eligible to play the second half of the season, BUT ONLY AS AN ALUMNI. • Alumni players must sign an alumni participation form to be able to participate. • Everyone must present ID to play prior to each game.
Eligibility • No pledges from the current semester may play on fraternity teams. However, the player may be placed on a roster in the fall and begin play in the spring semester. (This also applies to students who are studying abroad during the fall semester.) • No alumni members may play on points teams • Everyone must present ID to play prior to each game
Eligibility • The deadline for adding players to a team will be posted on Imleagues.com. You have until that time to add players to your official roster card on Imleagues.com • Score sheets will provide team roster. Prior to roster addition deadline, roster additions MUST be made by 4pm for player to be eligible for that day.
Concussions • Any player who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion (such as loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, confusion, or balance problems) shall be immediately removed from the game and shall not return to play until cleared by an appropriate healthcare professional.
Arena and Times • Games will be held in the main gym of the ARC and in the Hilltop gym • Times • 7:00 • 8:00 • 9:00 • Divisions • Monday/Wednesday • Tuesday/Thursday
Captain’s Duties • It is the responsibility of the captain to inform his players about the rules and regulations • Only the captain is allowed to speak with the officials during a contest • Discussion with officials may only take place between the designated team’s captains and the officials. These discussions must be made in an appropriate manner. (Any verbal abuse by any player toward officials will result in a technical) • All players on a team must have an IMLeagues.com account and be on current roster • The captain is in control of players ANDfans
Captain’s Duties cont. • The deadline for adding players to a team will be posted on Imleagues.com (2 weeks). You have until that time to add players to your official roster on Imleagues.com • All participants must be on the score sheet prior to the game. Late arrivals must sign in before they can play. If an individual plays without signing the score sheet a technical foul will be assessed on the team captain. • If an individual plays and is not on the roster card a forfeit will result for that game. An additional non-refundable $25 forfeit fee will need to be deposited before the next game to be eligible to participate. • A player must play in a least one regular season game to be eligible for tournament play.
Guidelines • Arrive 10-15mins before the contest to sign in. • Game Time is Forfeit Time • Each team is responsible for having matching jersey tops WITH displayed number on the back of uniform • If your team is unable to participate in a contest, you must contact one of the coordinators 24 hours in advance to keep your forfeit fee.
GamePlay • Each team shall consist of five players on the floor. • You may begin with four players but must have 5 by the END of half time or you will be forced to forfeit (In the case of injury a game can be completed with four members) • Each team will be granted 1 one minute timeout per half (not to be carried over to the next half) • The second half timeout may be carried over during overtime(In Playoffs only). 1 (30 second) timeout will be awarded to each team during overtime.
Game Play cont. • Substitutions • Must take place during a dead ball • Notify nearest official • Must be acknowledged by an official prior to entering the game. • Substitution during a live ball will result in a technical foul. • If play is stopped due to an injury that player must come out of the game until the next dead ball (A timeout may be used to ‘buy’ the player back into the game).
Length of the Game • Regular Season • A center jump will be used to start the game and overtime periods. All other jump balls will be determined by the alternating possession arrow. • Two fifteen (15) minutes halves (running time) with a five (5) minute halftime. The games will be played with a running clock except for the last two- (2) minutes of the second (2) half with stoppage only occurring during fouls. • THERE ARE NO OVERTIMES IN THE REGULAR SEASON. Games that end in a tie shall be recorded as a tie on a team’s overall record
Length of the Game cont • Tournament • Two twenty (20) minutes halves (running time) with a five (5) minute halftime. The games will be played with a running clock except for the last two- (2) minutes of the second (2) half for fouls. • In the event of a tied score at the end of regulation the following procedure shall be followed: • A five (5) minute running clock Overtime will occur. The last two- (2) minutes of the extra period the clock will stop only for foul shots. • In the event of a TIE at the end of the overtime the ensuing UNTIMED period will begin by jump ball. The game will be decided by sudden death. First team to score wins.
Rec Sports Alcohol Policy • Alcoholic beverages and drugs are not permitted on or around the playing area. Contests will not be played and will be forfeited if alcohol or drugs are present. Team managers must take responsibility to see that neither players nor spectators who participate in intramural activities are under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances regardless of age. Field/court supervisors have the authority and responsibility to remove participants and/or to forfeit games if substance abuse occurs.
Fouls • Shooting fouls will result in one of the following • 2-point shot • If the 2 point shot is made one free throw will be granted • If the 2 point shot is missed 2 free throws will be granted • 3-point shot • If the 3 point shot is missed 3 free throws will be granted • If the 3 point shot is made one free throw will be granted • Player control fouls will result in loss of possession of the ball • There is NO bonus situation. Final two minutes of the game all non-shooting fouls will result in a one and one free throw attempt.
Disqualification • 1. Each player is given 5 personal fouls. The player is disqualified on his/her 5thpersonal foul. (Technical Fouls count as a personal foul as well) • 2. Zero Tolerance Policy: If any official hears vulgar language from a player or a spectator a technical foul will be charged and the opposing team will receive possession of the ball and two foul shots. This is not protestable. • 3. A single flagrant personal foul will result in an ejection with a one game suspension. This foul will result in the opposing team receiving two shots and the ball out of bounds. • 4. All intentional fouls are personal fouls and will always be two free throws and the ball out of bounds. • 5. Any player receiving two technical fouls during one game will be automatically disqualified.
Disqualification cont • 6. Any players that are disqualified (i.e. 2 technical fouls, flagrant, or fighting, etc. Excluding 5 personal fouls.) are required to meet with the Director of Recreational Sports and will need to present their case in front of the IAC before playing in any more games. (PARTICIPANT IS REQUIRED TO LEAVE THE ARC & FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN THE FORFEITURE OF THE CONTEST & FEES.) • 7. Any team receiving THREE (3) technical fouls during one game will forfeit that game and their forfeit fee. • 8. Should rule 5 or 7 occur a second time, that individual or team will be disqualified for the remainder of their games and could lose their privilege of participating in any Intramural Sport.
Disqualification cont • 9. DUNKING IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE ATHLETICS-RECREATION CENTER. Any player dunking during an Intramural Contest will result in a technical foul being assessed to the team. It also will result in an ejection of the player for that game and the following scheduled game. • Should an individual dunk in the last scheduled game of the season, the teams forfeit fee will not be refunded and the team could face disciplinary charges. • 10. Any threat whether physical or verbal will be met with an automatic ejection of that player and year end suspension from Intramurals for one calendar year.
Miscellaneous • All eligibility rules apply. Any question see Recreational Sports Handbook or call RecSports at x5211 • Protest procedures are listed in the Recreational Sports Handbook. All protests must be made in writing to the Director of Recreational Sports no later than 11 am the day following the contest in question. • Please report all injuries to the IM Basketball Supervisor or Building Supervisor • A player who is bleeding or has an excess amount of blood on his/her uniform must leave the game and may not return until the blood is cleaned and there is an opportunity for the player to return.
Miscellaneous cont. • Rescheduling of games is close to impossible. If your team must reschedule you must contact the Rec Sports Office at least 48 hours in advance. • Tournament games will not be rescheduled. The tournament will be seeded and scheduling will be considered but not guaranteed, it’s the teams responsibility to play at the time it falls into. • The tournament will be seeding using a formula that ranks wins, winning percentage, and point differential. If a tie breaker is needed points allowed will be taken into account with the team allowing the lower amount getting the higher seed.

Officials • Here are some prerequisites to good officiating. Remember, no one said it would be easy to be an official! • Keep in shape. • Make calls positively and with good timing. • Know the rules. • Know the mechanics. • Ignore the fans. • Don't draw undue attention to yourself. • Be courteous to players and coaches, but don't fraternize with them. • Hustle and be alert. • Call them as you see them. • Be loyal to your crew members. • Maintain rapport with and respect for other crew members. • Don't infringe on the duties of other crew members.
Officials • Appearance and attitude are important -no Greek letters, hats, inappropriate apparel. • Be active, move with the play and be in the best position you can to make a call • Be confident in your call, back up others calls • Crew members should support each other and communicate with one another. • NO CELL PHONES DURING WORK.
