The Paper… • Will be made up of six question. • Ramping within questions – not across the paper
Multiple Choice Question • There will be 6 of these in the paper. (Probably one in each question) • If you want to change your mind – strike through and put the correct one. • These are marked by a computer – no use writing the correct answer or circling the letter
Closed Response Question • Pupils need to make a choice from a given set of questions • There will be more of these in the ‘Science’ GCSE than the ‘Additional’ GCSE
Open Response Questions (Structured) • Worth 1,2 or 3 marks (Higher go up to 4) • Use command words from the specification that tell you the detail in which to respond.
One Markers Correct Correct 2 marks Incorrect Correct 1 mark
Two Markers • Note the change in demand • Won’t lose a mark for incorrect spelling – have a go!
Three Markers • Checking the specification we see that pupils don’t need to know why there’s a pattern • This is thermal decomposition, carbonates break down to release carbon dioxide, this turn the limewater milky. Barium is the most stable because it didn’t decompose
Six Markers • Likely to be the most challenging. • 2 on each paper • they may ask questions based on their ability to: • some just recall • evaluate data from practical • applications of the science they have learnt.
But… • We were told that pupils can: • Answer in bullet points. • Marks will be awarded for the Science first, then the spelling, punctuation and grammar.
