Open Access Textbook Task Force Report, Legislation, and Follow-up 1004.085 F.S. TEXTBOOK AFFORDABILITY 277 (c) That a course instructor or the academic department 278 offering the course determines, before a textbook is adopted, 279 the extent to which a new edition differs significantly and 280 substantively from earlier versions and the value of changing to 281a new edition or the extent to which an open-access textbook may 282 exist and be used. 283 (d) That the establishment of policies shall address the 284 availability of required textbooks to students otherwise unable 285 to afford the cost, including consideration of the extent to 286 which an open-access textbook may be used. 287 (e) That encourages course instructors and academic 288 departments to participate in the development, adaptation, and 289 review of open-access textbooks, in particular, open-access 290 textbooks for high-demand general education courses.

Open Access Textbook Update • Open Textbook Development Initiatives: UF, FSU and USF • 171 open textbooks available. Many Orange Grove Texts Plus print books available • New Opportunities for Involvement in Open Textbooks • Identify interested faculty • Host workshops to inform faculty • Host hands-on workshops to learn how to search, select and use resources and textbooks • Develop a general education textbook, lab book , work book or auxilliary resources for high enrollment courses • Help identify faculty to review open textbooks and assign any appropriate common course numbers
