  2. MR JOSEPHUS TAN’S PAST DICTIONARY *Blue-collar: relating to manual work or workers, particularly in industry. Grew up in a three-room HDB flat with parents who were blue-collar workers. Was rebellious, often hung out with gangs and got into fights

  3. MR JOSEPHUS TAN’S PAST Did badly for his O levels, failed to complete his A levels Turned to alcohol and once assaulted his family members after drinking.

  4. TURNING POINT Father slapped him and said that he was hopeless! That slap marked a turning point Took up a diploma in law from a private institution and later gained entry to a university where he read law To finance his study, he took up odd jobs including washing toilets of a law firm.

WHAT HE DOES NOW DICTIONARY *Pro bono: used to describe work that someone, especially a lawyer, does without getting paid **Called to the bar: be admitted as a barrister (lawyer) He was called to the Bar** in May 2009. He spends almost every day Saturday morning meeting prisoners for his pro bono* work, giving free services to them. Is the lawyer with the most pro bono* criminal cases last year
