Vision To be a leader in the construction and articulation of collaborative efforts for Internet development and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean
Cooperation and Development oriented activities • FRIDA Program - www.programafrida.net • In partnership with IDRC and ISOC. • Small grants program for funding ICT research projects • 2nd phase. Total amount for this phase: US$ 650,000 • Total: More than US$ 1 million in 4 years. • 41 projects already funded. • New call closed last 18th August. 110 proposals from 18 countries.
Governmental forums • LACNIC is very active in the mayor governmental forums in the region. • LACNIC has been very involved in eLAC-2007, the action plan for developing Information Society in LAC region. • We have performed activities that contribute with the achievement of 25 of the 70 eLAC-2007 goals. • LACNIC participated in equal footing with governments in the development and negotiations about eLAC-2010, the new action plan making contributions in different areas like infrastructure, interconnection costs, IXPs and IPv6.
Particularly, goal 15 referring to IPv6: “ Carry out actions geared towards promoting the adoption of the IPv6 protocol at the public and private levels with a view to making all public services offered via the IP protocol, as appropriate, available on IPv6 and ensuring that the main State infrastructure and applications are IPv6-compatible. Actions to be implemented will, to the extent possible, include the early implementation of requirements to ensure that government procure equipment and applications that are IPv6-compatible.” • Similar resolution was adopted by CITEL – OAS where LACNIC and ARIN are members LACNIC and eLAC-2010
IPv6 • Continue support to the deployment of IPv6 through: • Training, Promotion, LAC IPv6 TF, FLIP-6 • Presentations about IPv4 depletion and transition to IPv6 in 13 countries during 2007. • IPv6 tour in 10 countries this year • Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, Curaçao, Colombia, Haiti, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba, Paraguay. • Two more under discussion : St. Maarten, Nicaragua • Campaigning : 1/1/11 • IPv6 Portal - http://portalipv6.lacnic.net • Metrics http://portalipv6.lacnic.net/en/ipv6/statistics/ipv6-0

LACNIC XI: Policies that got consensus • LAC-2008-01 Global policy for the allocation of the remaining IPv4 address space. • LAC-2008-02 IPv6 Provider Independent (PI) assignments for Organizations-End Users with IPv4 PI assignments. • LAC-2008-03 IPv6 Provider Independent (PI) Assignments for Organizations-End Users. • LAC-2008-04 IPv4 special allocations/assignments reservation for new members. • The list of policy proposals can be found at: http://lacnic.net/sp/politicas/propuesta-politicas.html • Ratified by the Board last 8th August.
