  2. Definition of Supported Employment • Supported Employment enables people with disabilities to find, secure and maintain paid employment in the open labour market. • On the job training and individualised long term supports are key elements of supported employment

  3. Why is work important? “Work is crucial……..when we are excluded from work we are excluded from a whole range of personal and social relationships and this is important for the development of our sense of self”(Video based on Sociological Imagination 2001) University of Lancaster

  7. Supported Employment Services • Several organisations operating their own Supported Employment Programmes with the model of SE, providing ongoing individualised supports and delivering positive employment outcomes for their clients. • National FAS Programme. Criteria apply

Supported Employment Services • Assist the individual in identifying the most suitable role for them within an organisation. • Assist the employer in recruiting suitable staff for their organisation. • There are many services throughout the country. • Contact details are available on www.iase.ie

Supported Employment Services • Employment Facilitators provide one-to-one support • Offer professional free advice & consultancy on disability & employment issues. • Support systems for clients & employers for as long as required. • Evaluate & monitor the job placement to ensure success for both parties.

  10. 1st Annual Job Shadow Initiative • This was Launched by Bertie Ahern in 2007. • There was also a high profile group put together. • This happened on the 23rd of April 2008 • It is open to any individual with a disability. • It is also open to any employer.
