KEKEC. Kekec is a boy with a hat, a feather on the hat and a whistle. He is a herdsman and lives in the Slovenian mountains. He is very nice and happy, brave and clever, nosy, teasing and energetic. He lives with his father, mother and his two sisters Tinkara and Jerica.

  2. Kekec is a boy with a hat, a feather on the hat and a whistle. • He is a herdsman and lives in the Slovenian mountains. • He is very nice and happy, brave and clever, nosy, teasing and energetic. • He lives with his father, mother and his two sisters Tinkara and Jerica. • During the summer he works for the family where Rozle and Mojca live. Mojca is blind and he wants to help her somehow.

  3. CHARACTERISTICS OF KEKEC: • He likes singing and playing his whistle and zither. • He’s good-hearted. • He helps people. • He does good deeds. • He is curious and adventurous.

  4. THE MAIN CHARACTERS • Kekec, very brave herdsman • Rozle, a herdsman, a coward • Mojca, Rozle’s blind sister • Bedanec, a wild hunter • Pehta, she collects herbs and kidnaps children • Kosobrin, he collects herbs, he is very wise • Brincelj, a forest fool • Vitranc, a mountain wiseman

  6. Josip Vandot Kekec is a literary hero and there are three books about his life, written by Josip Vandot: • Kekec na hudi poti (Kekec on the Hard Path - 1918) • Kekec na volcji sledi (Kekec on the Wolf Trail - 1922) • Kekec nad samotnim breznom (Kekec Above the Lonely Abyss - 1968)

  7. There were three film adaptations for all stories: • Kekec (1951) – first Slovene youth full-length movie, black and white • Srecno, Kekec (Good luck, Kekec - 1963) – first Slovene colour film • Kekceve ukane (Kekec's Wiles - 1968) – colour film

  8. KEKEC’S LAND • Kranjska Gora: in the Slovenian mountains • You can meet all the characters there. • The characters tell the stories about Kekec. • You can eat some typical Slovenian food there that herdsmen used to eat.
