  1. Effects of Acrylic Vessel Shift Dawei Liu @ LBNL Study the effects of the shifting of both inner and outer acrylic vessels on the AD

  2. Setup • Neutrons are generated uniformly in the gadolinium doped liquid scintillator • Shifting of inner acrylic vessel along x, z axes independently. Outer acrylic vessel is kept centered. • Shifting of outer acrylic vessel along x, z axes independently. Inner acrylic vessel is kept centered • Looking for ? Hit sum, hit distributions as function of z and ploar angle.

  3. Hit Sum Histograms

  4. Hit Sum • 2 peaks corresponding the neutron captures on H and Gd. • Compared with no-shift of the acrylic vessels, the hit sum changes as follows: • Inner X +0.05; +0.1; +0.2; • 1%, 0.1%; 0%, 0.2%; 0.8%, 0.05% • Inner Z +0.05; +0.1; +0.2; • 2%, 0.2%; 1.6%, 0.2%; 2%, 0.4% • Outer X +0.1 +0.2 • 1.7%, 0.5%; 0.8% 0.4% • Outer Z +0.1 +0.2 • 3%, 0.05%; 2.2% 0.8% • Comment: Change is less than 3% for 2.2MeV peak, <1% for 8MeV • The effect of change is more along Z axis than along X axis.

  5. Hit Distribution Along Z-Axis

  6. Hit Distributions • Inner Acrylic Vessel shift along z-axis • Z +0.05; +0.1; +0.2 • Compare the 1st and the last bins • 2% 10% 27%

  7. Polar Angle Hit Distribution

  8. Hit Distribution • Inner Acrylic Vessel shift along z-axis • X +0.05 +0.1 +0.2 • Compare the bins at 0 and 180 degree • 10% 13% 29%

  9. Hit Distribution Along Z-Axis

  10. Hit Distributions • Outer Acrylic Vessel shift along z-axis • Z +0.1 +0.2 • Compare the last 2 bins • 0.5% 3% • The effect of outer acrylic shift is small on hit Z distribution

  11. Polar Angle Hit Distribution

  12. Hit Distribution • Outer Acrylic Vessel shift along z-axis • X +0.1 +0.2 • Compare the bins at 0 and 180 degree • 8% 6% • The shift of outer acrylic vessel has less effect on the phi hit distribution as compared with the shift of inner acrylic vessel.
