  5. The Welsh Flag • The flag of Wales was first recognized in 1959 • In Welsh, the flag is called Baner Cymru or Y Ddaig Goch which means “Red Dragon” • The green and white stands for the national plant, leeks

  6. History • The first people in Wales were farmers and herdsmen • The Romans built roads and towns • Many people invaded Wales including Germanic tribes, the Saxon tribes and the Vikings

  7. Saint David's Day • Saint David's Day is on March 1 • Saint David was a Celtic monk • He is the patron saint of Wales • A tradition is to wear a leek or daffodil
