Two course sequence EE 415 (Design Project Management) - 2 semester credits EE 416 (Electrical Engineering Design) – 3 semester credits required of all students in Electrical or Computer Engineering 54 students enrolled in Fall of 2002 Approximately 100students per year Of these, 25 – 30% had a power emphasis
EE 415 (Electrical Engineering Design) • Two Simultaneous Parts • Part I • lectures to prepare students for work on multidisciplinary teams in an industrial environment. • Introduction to Total Quality Management • Tour of Schweitzer Engr. Labs Manufacturing Facility • Understanding Your Customer • Team member characteristics, problems and communication • Team Building – lecture/exercise • Project Scheduling

Part II Assignment of and initial work on senior projects. The instructor finds projects (mostly from industry). Industrial mentor interest and commitment is essential Teams of 3 – 5 students are assigned based on interest. Team members are also chosen so that there is a range of backgrounds and achievement on the team. Students work to prepare project proposals Proposals are formally presented at the end of the semester and evaluated by a panel from industry.

EE416 (Electrical Engineering Design) • Students complete the project that is proposed in EE415. • written weekly progress reports to the EE 416 instructor • a formal oral midterm presentation of progress the project • was required • each group was required to present a final report on the project • a poster session with industry attendees • a formal oral presentation with industry and faculty evaluators • a written report.
