Persuade me to allow you all to watch films until Christmas • Techniques: • Exaggeration • Invitation to think positively • Hard evidence (stats) • Soft evidence (opinion) • Incentives • Commands • Appeal to the head • Assertion- point of view expressed as fact • Use of appealing descriptive language • Addressing the reader directly • Appeal to the senses • Appeal to the heart • Who was your audience? • How did this influence how you wrote?

  3. Other devices... • Rhetorical Question • Rule of 3 • Strong adjectives • Superlatives • Emotive language • Use of first person (I); second person (you) • Using a variety of language techniques (alliteration etc) • Use of varied sentence starters • Anecdote

  4. Task: • Compose a extended piece of writing, where you persuade the Prime Minister that all students should be entitled to free further education. • Analyse Band 5 text. • Compare their texts to Band 5 (swap over with everyone.)
