  2. A trusted brand • American Express has one of the world’s most trusted and powerful brands. Their name stands for security, service and personal recognition. This reputation attracts customers and business partners, inspires their employees, and is valued by investors. Forged over 160 years of doing business, their brand continues to set us apart from the competition.

  3. Brand Timeline 1850 Founded by Henry G. Wells, Williams G. Fargo, and John Butterfield, American Express was originally an express freight company. 1860s American Express transported vital supplies to Union Army depots and conducted the high-risk task of delivering election ballots to troops in the field. 1882 “Money Order” was created as a safer option of transferring money. 1886 American Express established relationships with banks across Europe, allowing emigrants to the United States to transfer money to their families.

  4. Brand Timeline 1891 American Express introduced American Express traveler’s checks. 1941-18 American Express offices helped US customers trapped in Europe during the war to get back home safely. After the war American Express expanded their travel organization globally. 1963 American Express launched its first green charge card in the UK. 1970 American Express launched the corporate card. 1996 American Express launched its first credit card in the UK.
