Funding Issues The Bad News There is no mandatory funding for postgraduate study (except for PGCE students). Getting on a course does not automatically entitle you to funding The Student Loans Company doesn’t support postgraduates The Good News There is a variety of means of funding postgraduate study: fellowships, studentships, scholarships, departmental teaching, bursaries etc The University of Warwick administered more than £21million of scholarships in 2011/12

Research Councils • The University bids to secure funding from research councils across all disciplines. • In 2011/12 the University was in receipt of £7.8million for scholarships from research councils. • The University hosts a number of Doctoral Training Centres in Science Faculty and the Economics and Social Research Council DTC. • The University is in receipt of funding from the following research councils: • Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) • Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) • Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) • Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) • Medical Research Council (MRC) • Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) • Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC)
Warwick’s central competition (PGR) • Chancellor’s– approx. 50 offering fees at Home/EU rate and/or maintenance (£13,590 in 2012/13) • Chancellor’s International Scholarships – approx. 35 offering fees at full Overseas rate plus maintenance (Must be classed as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes) • AHRC doctoral awards – in specified departments • Wolfson Foundation (Language, Literature and History) • How to apply • Open now • Deadline: 11 January 2013 • Apply at admissions stage or via the Graduate School website
