  2. Outcome-Based Approach - Why • What instructors teach, and what students learn should be directly relevant to the needs of society (i.e. future employers). OBE focuses on this. • All universities in Hong Kong doing this for 4-year undergraduate programs in 2012 • This approach is endorsed by HKIE, CILT and also ABET (in USA).

This Course – A Joint Effort • This is one of about 40 courses implementing outcome-based education in this semester • Teachers have agreed to move toward an “outcome-based approach” • We want to know what works for students • We want to know how best to implement this approach for other courses
