What is Think-Pair-Share? • Think-Pair-Share is a four-step discussion strategy that incorporates wait time and aspects of cooperative learning. • These four steps include: • Listen (while a question is posed) • Think (of a response) • Pair (with a neighbor to discuss responses) • Share (responses with the whole class)
Think-Pair-Share Mini Lesson Plan 1. Have students seated in teams of 4 (numbered from 1 to 4). 2. Assign a discussion topic or problem to solve. (Example: Look at the “Types of Transportation for Students” pie chart, how far away do you think most students live from school campus?)
Look at the “Types of Transportation for Students” pie chart, how far away do you think most students live from school campus?)
Lesson Plan cont. 3. Give the students “think time.” About one minute should be enough time for the students to THINK of their own answer. 4.Using the student numbers, assign discussion partners. (Example: For this discussion, Student #1 and #2 will be partners and discuss their ideas and reasons. Student #3 and #4 will also partner up.) 5. Ask students to PAIR with their partner to discuss the topic or solution. 6. Finally, randomly call on a few students to SHARE their ideas with the class.
