DJO, LLC Brace FittingBy Technical Support Corporate Presentation
Position Patient • Position the patient seated with knee flexed to 45 degrees with foot flat on the floor.
Prepare to Apply ACL Brace • Before applying the brace, loosen all straps and fold the hook velcro patch back onto the loop portion of the strap. This will facilitate fitting of the brace
Applying the Brace • While sitting on the edge of a chair have patient step through the brace. • Position the center of the hinges 1” above the top of the patella and slightly posterior to midline of the leg • Make sure brace is not twisted on the leg
Apply Anti-Migration Calf Band • Secure the Anti-Migration band around the upper calf and close on anterior shin (this will be independent of the #4 and #5 straps). • The Anti-Migration band will help keep the brace in proper position while strapping down the rest of the straps.
Apply Strap #1 • Secure the lower calf strap
Apply Strap #2 • Secure upper thigh strap
Push hinges posterior • Keeping knee bent at 45 degrees, push both hinges toward back of the leg (posterior) as shown.
Apply strap #3 • Maintain the position of the hinges (posterior to midline) and secure the lower thigh strap
Apply strap #4 • Secure anterior upper calf strap which will draw the hinges forward to approximately midline of the leg
Apply strap #5 • Apply posterior upper calf strap. This strap does not need to be secured as tight as the other straps. • For future applications the #5 strap does not need to be re-applied when the brace is taken off. Simply apply straps 1-4.
PCL Strapping Sequence • PCL version has only 4 straps • Order of application: • #1 lower calf • #2 upper thigh • push hinges posterior • #3 posterior upper calf (only) • #4 is anterior lower thigh • The #4 strap should draw the hinges forward slightly.
CI Strapping Sequence • Combined Instability covers both ACL and PCL • This has 6 total straps • Strapping sequence: • #1 lower calf • #2 upper thigh • push hinges posterior • #3 posterior lower thigh • #4 posterior upper calf • #5 strap anterior upper calf (this should draw the hinges forward) • #6 anterior lower thigh.
Patient Compliance • Be sure the patient understands how to apply the brace. Have them apply the brace in front of you before they leave.
