Message Formats Endpoints are manufactured with a specific message format enabled, either SCM or SCM+. SCM+ System Requirements • To utilize the new features of SCM+ messaging reading systems must be capable of accepting the new message structure. Below are the minimum application requirements for processing SCM+ messages. • MV-RS v8.5.4 or higher (released May 2015) • Field Collection System (FCS) v2.3 or higher (released in 2011) • ChoiceConnect Fixed Network software v4.1 or higher (released in 2011) • Field Deployment Manager (FDM) v3.3 or higher (released in March 2013) Application Requirements

Model Variations Several models of 100 series endpoints have been produce since the first released in 2010. The below table provides details of the major differences.
The Handheld Device To read and program endpoints use one of the following handhelds: FC200SR FC300SR (with S-Read) Ensure the selected handheld device has the latest release of Field Data Manager (FDM) installed. FC200 FC300
100 Series Operating Modes 100 series water endpoints can be configured for the following operating modes. Factory Mode Initial shipping mode • Module’s transmitter is turned off but receiver listens for commands Encoder models monitor for meter register connection • When detected the register reading is extracted at the top of the hour and transitions endpoint to Run Mode Pulser models require programming to exit Factory Mode Cut Cable and Cut Detected tamper flags are active Quiet Mode A special mode used by meter manufacturers that allows meter/endpoint functional verification before leaving their factory. At the end of a selected time period the endpoint automatically reverts to its previous operating mode
100 Series Start-up Run Mode Standard operating mode Endpoint transmissions based on mobile or fixed network environment Pulser endpoints require programming to set the selected register parameters, initial consumption, and Utility ID Audit Mode Similar to Run Mode except endpoint transmission rate changes to every 4 seconds and receiver listens for commands at 4 second intervals • A Check endpoint command places the endpoint in Audit Mode for one hour then it exits to Run Mode Geo Mode A special fixed network mode that enables a hard to read endpoint to use a close by endpoint as a relay
Installation Depending on the model of endpoint, Pit or Remote, decide how the endpoint will be installed: wall mount, through the lid, shelf mount or rod mount For water meter pit boxes the type of lid material and it’s configuration will govern how the endpoint should be mounted. Follow the installation procedures outlined in Itron publication, TDC-0909-0XX. Rod Mount Through Lid Shelf Mount
Installation For Remote endpoints select mounting locations that provide the closest distance to the intended reading device with minimal obstructions • For Mobile: Closest to the street of the route drive-by • For Fixed Network: Closest to the location of the Cell Control Unit When installed in basements try to mount the unit as high as possible, preferably on the upper floor joist near a window Wall Mount
Installation Follow the instructions in the appropriate Installation Manual, TDC-0909-0XX (Pit model) or TDC-0951-0XX (Remote) and connect the endpoint to the meter register using one of the following methods: Inline Connector (ILC) Direct wire Direct Mount Direct Wire Direct Mount Inline Connector
Wiring Configurations Endpoint modules are available with various meter register wiring options. Refer to specific installation manual (Pit models: TDC-0909-0XX or TDC-0951-0XX for Remotes) for wiring details. Pit Model Itron’s Inline Connector (ILC) system incorporates O-ring sealed twist lock connectors to ensure a water tight attachment Direct wiring to the meter register using the endpoint’s 5 foot or 20 inch flying lead cable Will require applying a water repellant material over the meter screw/wire connections Remote Model Direct connection using the register’s internal wires Itron approved cabling that can be used in lengths up to 300 feet
Programming Programing water endpoints requires the use of an FC200 or FC300 handheld radio. Follow the instructions given in FDM application guide, TDC-0934-0XX. Encoder Endpoints Automatic register detection is a feature of 100 series encoder modules. When connected to approved encoded meter registers initial programming is not required to activate the endpoint and register consumption values will be automatically updated at the top of each hour. Encoder endpoints will require programming if: • A Neptune E-Coder 8-dial register is to be connected • A Utility ID is required • A change in Mode is needed. For example, Fixed Network to Mobile • Immediate Run Mode is needed • Endpoint Security is to be enabled

Programming Fixed Network A fixed base system that utilizes strategically placed Cell Control Units to relay endpoint and meter information to a central location. From Endpoint Tools Select 100W FN Select Program Endpoint • Enter endpoint ID, select meter register, and if a pulser enter register reading • Verify programming information After programming perform a Network Coverage Test (NCT) to verify the endpoint is communicating with the Fixed Network system.
Programming Geo Mode A special fixed network mode to improve the detection of a hard to read endpoint by using an adjacent endpoint as a relay. GeoMode is only exercisable with endpoints programmed for fixed network operation. • From Endpoint Tools • Select GeoMode Command • Enter hard to read endpoint ID • Select Establish Link • Enter GeoMode (relay) endpoint ID
Programming Telemetry Devices Programming for approved telemetry products is not required. The endpoint automatically detects and displays these devices as “Peripheral Device” within the Check Endpoint table. Additionally, the state of the device—Operational or Connected—and related firmware and hardware versions will be shown.
Programming Telemetry Devices—Secure Commands To access some telemetry devices the 100W+ must have enhanced security enabled and be programmed with Secure Commands and Security Keys issued by the Itron Security Manager. This is achieved by accessing the Get Commands screen in the FDM Endpoint Tools application on the FC300 handheld reader.
Programming Telemetry Devices—Remote Disconnect Valve A device to control interruption of water service without the need to remove the water meter. • From Endpoint Tools • Select Valve Commands • Enter endpoint ID • Select the type of function required • Confirm service status
Programming Telemetry Devices—Acousitcal Leak Sensor A device that monitors sound signatures from the meter service line to the street distribution line. Data is analyzed and stored in the endpoint. The sensor will be automatically detected within 22 ½ minutes of being attached to the endpoint. From Endpoint Tools Perform a Check Endpoint and verify Leak Sensor is visible at Peripheral Device and the LS State is Operational.
Programming After programming always use Check Endpoint to view various endpoint parameters and verify that everything is working properly. • Aligns the endpoint time to the handheld’s current time • Checks communication with telemetry devices • Generates an immediate request for a read from an encoded registeror returns the current accumulated reading from a pulser register • Indicates state of tamper and status flags
Troubleshooting Unable to read or program • Verify the correct endpoint ID was entered in reading device • Move closer to the endpoint • Make sure the endpoint is mounted correctly and not under water. If it is under water, use a through the lid mount. • Make sure the endpoint is in an upright position • Determine if the installed endpoint is working properly by temporarily substituting a known good unit
Troubleshooting Register and endpoint readings do not match • Verify that the cable is connected and not damaged or pinched • Gel connectors may not be crimped properly • Verify the endpoint is wired correctly • Verify that the endpoint and meter register are correctly matched • Refer to the meter compatibility list, PUB-0063-002 • Determine if the installed endpoint is working properly by temporarily substituting a known good unit • For an encoded type register determine if it is working correctly by temporarily substituting a known good unit • Check for physical damage
Troubleshooting Register reading is not reported • A No Read will be indicated if the endpoint is not wired correctly • For Remote endpoint modules check that the gel connectors are properly crimped • Verify that the endpoint and meter register are correctly matched • Refer to the meter compatibility list, PUB-0063-002 • Determine if the installed endpoint is working properly by substituting with a known good unit • For an encoder type endpoint and register an Invalid Read is reported if there is improper register/endpoint communications or if the register is trying to transfer unacceptable data • Check physical damage
Troubleshooting Cut Cable is indicated Cut Cable indicates that at some point within the last 40 days the endpoint was not communicating with an encoded meter register or was not recording pulses from a pulser type register. Verify that the cable is connected and not damaged or pinched Gel connectors may not be crimped properly Verify that the endpoint is wired correctly • Verify that the endpoint and meter register are correctly matched. • Refer to the meter compatibility list, PUB-0063-002 • Determine if the installed endpoint is working properly by substituting with a known good unit Check physical damage
Troubleshooting Cut Detected is indicated Cut detected indicates that the endpoint is not currently communicating with the meter register. If the condition exists for a 24 hour period for an encoder ERT or for 2 consecutive read attempts for a pulser ERT, the Cut Cable flag will be set. • Verify the endpoint and meter register are correctly matched. • Refer to the meter compatibility list, PUB-0063-002 Verify the cable is connected and not damaged or pinched Gel connectors may not be crimped properly Verify the endpoint is wired correctly Check physical damage
Troubleshooting Leak Sensor not detected • Verify the cable is connected and not cut or pinched • For a remote endpoint verify it is wired correctly and gel connectors are crimped properly • Check for physical damage • Verify the endpoint is programmed correctly by doing a Check Endpoint function • Attach a known good leak sensor and reprogram • If you do not detect the sensor, replace the endpoint Leak Sensor 100W/100W+ Leak Sensor Installed
Maintenance Tips for maintaining installations When reading, check for physical damage, water submersion, cut cable or debris covering up the endpoint Use remote antennas for hard-to-read locations and metal lids Ensure endpoints are installed in accordance with the requirements stated in the respective installation manual The endpoint should always be in a vertical upright position
