Learning Outcomes • By attending and actively participating in this event, you will: • Identify University resources to assist your student organization (where to go, who to ask, navigating policies, etc.) • Develop student organization affinity and connection to University Spirit, Pride, and Tradition by understanding The Sun Devil Way and knowing how to apply it to your student organization • Reflect on your term as an outgoing officer in your student organization and provide insight and advice to new officers • Create goals and establish an action plan on how to achieve them during your officer term • Complete a portion of the student organization re-registration process for the 2013/2014 academic year by attending the Student Organization Info Session
Purpose of an Effective Officer Transition • Avoid starting from scratch year after year • Minimizes confusion during officer changeover • Transfer organizational knowledge and maintain consistency • Gives outgoing officers a sense of closure • Opportunity for outgoing officers to evaluate programs/events • Provides orientation/training for new officers • Increases knowledge and confidence of incoming leaders
How To… • Update all information in OrgSync, including “Files”, before leaving office/term • Mission, philosophy, goals, and purpose of org • Officer/position descriptions • Membership roster • Contact info for people most frequently contacted • Meeting minutes and agenda • Financial records and account access • List of basic annual procedures and/or calendar of events
What’s Next? • Plan a retreat or a transition meeting • Invite outgoing and incoming officers • Focus on: • Goals • Team building • Programs and activities • Officers and organizational structure • Organizational operations • Advisor involvement • Public image

Finances • Update bank account records • Who are the co-signers on the account? • What is the financial status of the organization? • Where did the org get its money this year? • Did the org apply for/receive USG funding? • Did the org hold fundraisers? Which worked and which didn’t? • Did the org collect membership dues?
Planning Your Calendar • Start planning now! It’s never too early! • Include academic deadlines and dates into the calendar to identify “busy times” • What regular (annually, monthly, semesterly) events do you have and when? • Select your meeting dates • Select your event dates
Review Events • Which events were most successful this year? • When should planning start for each event? • Which events did not go well? Can they be revamped or should they be dropped? • Were there any things that could be improved for this coming year?
Recruitment Activities • What does your organization typically do to recruit new members? • What worked this year? What didn’t? • Did new members stick around? If not, why did they leave? • Save the Date: • Involvement Fair – August 22, 2013
