  2. Contrast • Created when two elements are purposefully and dramatically different • must be strong • Bold type, thick horiz rule, differing font faces • C.R.A.P works! • Helps to visually organize information • (Williams, 1994)

  3. Repetition • Repeat some aspect of the design throughout the entire piece • Same font for titles, subheadings • Graphic images (left-hand corner) • (Williams, 1994)

  4. Alignment • Nothing should be placed on the page arbitrarily • Every item should have a visual connection with something else on the page • Left, center, right • (Williams, 1994)

  5. Proximity • Group related items together • Closeness implies a relationship • Nothing wrong with white space • (Williams, 1994)
