Both Brothers Wounded Sinners • Their strengths became their weaknesses- Romans 8:7,8 • Esau- Physical strength, appetite v.27, Philippians 3:19 • Jacob- Wit and power of persuasion v.27, Proverbs 3:5,6 • Both raised in a “dysfunctional home” v.28
Both Desperately Needed God’s Grace • God favoured ( chose) one- v.23 • The older will serve the younger Romans 9:13 • The Gospel pattern – Matthew 9:13 • Death of human pride Ephesians 2:8,9 • One son received God’s grace ( Jacob-Israel)
What Does This Mean For Me? • Naturally relying on our own strength? John 15:5 • We all come from “dysfunctional” homes Romans 5:12 • God’s unmerited love and grace is extended to all- Romans 5:15, Ephesians 2:1-5, John 3:16, II Corinthians 5:17 • God’s grace changes hearts- Psalm 51 I Timothy 1:15
