  1.  PARABLES  By: Catherine, Cynthia, and D’Elia

  2. Prodigal Son • There once was a happy family • A son asked his father for his part of the inheritance before the father died. • The father willingly gave it to him.

  3. Prodigal Son • With the money, the son went away • He eventually spent it all on parties and other material, useless possessions • Disaster struck the area and the son was greatly effected

  4. Prodigal Son • The son wonder around poor, thinking about how he was going to get back his fathers love.

  5. Prodigal Son • The son goes home planning on becoming a servant for his father • When he arrives, his father is so happy that he throws him a party • The good child was opposed to the idea

  6. Prodigal Son • Moral – no matter how far away you become from God, He will always take you back. We are like the bad son. God is our father. No matter how badly we have wronged him, he will willingly take us back.

  7. The Lost Sheep • There once was a shepherd who had 100 sheep

  8. The Lost Sheep • One sheep goes missing • The loving shepherd leaves his 99 sheep in the pasture and goes off to find the one lost sheep

  9. The Lost Sheep • The shepherd finds the sheep, put it on his shoulders, and went back to the other 99 sheep • He gathered his family and friends and rejoiced

  10. The Lost Sheep • Moral – We are like the sheep. If one of us goes astray, God will always come looking for us. He will rejoice when he has brought us back.

  11. The Judgment • At the end of time, God will separate the righteous (sheep) from the unrighteous (goats).

  12. The Judgment • “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, you invited me in; naked, and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.”

  13. The Judgment • The righteous then asked Jesus when they had seen him and helped him. • He answered, “Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”

  14. The Judgment • Then Jesus turns to the unrighteous and tells them that they have not helped Jesus in their lives, and had never made an effort to help these brothers. • The righteous will live forever in heaven • The unrighteous will go away into eternal punishment

  15. The Judgment • Moral – go out of your way, everyday, to help your neighbor. God will reward you in the end. Always strive to do your best in all you do.

  16. The Parable of the 10 Virgins • There were 10 virgins who brought their lamps to a wedding • Five were foolish and five were wise

  17. The Parable of the 10 Virgins • The five wise virgins took extra oil for their lamps, and the five foolish women left without oil. • The bride took awhile to get ready so the women fell asleep.

  18. The Parable of the 10 Virgins • When they awoke, the bride was ready to go. Yet, the five foolish women didn’t have any oil left in their lamps. • They asked the five wise women if they could use some of theirs, but there wasn’t enough to go around.

  19. The Parable of the 10 Virgins • The five foolish women then went to go and buy some more oil. • When they came back, the procession started and they weren’t allowed to go in.

  20. The Parable of the 10 Virgins • Moral- “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day or the hour.” • Make sure you live out your life to the fullest. Always do your best to be the best person you can be and help others along the way. • You never know when God will be judging.

  21. The Lamp • "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

  22. The Lamp • God's grace not only lightens the darkness in our lives, but it also fills us with spiritual light, joy, and peace. • Jesus used the image of a lamp to describe how his disciples are to live in the light of his truth and love. • our mission is to be light-bearers of Christ so that others may see the truth of the gospel and be freed from the blindness of sin and deception.

  23. The Lamp • Moral – God can see everything and everyone. We are to be light-bearers. Make sure that everything you do makes you shine brightly. God can see good and bad. Try and make everything good, so that you shine and help others shine with the brightness of God
