Rincon de la Vieja National Park is about 25 kilometres (15 miles) northeast of Liberia, which is the capital city of Guanacaste. Popular beach towns like Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo are about two hours away, and Playa Hermosa is even closer (1.5 hours). There are two ways to get into the 14,300-hectare (35,336-acre) park. Santa Maria station is one, and Las Pailas station is the other. <br>

Rincon de la vieja Activities There is a third trial for Rincon de la Vieja activities, called the Sendero Crater Activo, for people who want to climb to the top of Rincon de la Vieja. This trail has been closed for several years, and it probably will stay that way for a while. This is because the volcano is always erupting and dangerous gases keep coming out of its crater and vents. It's better to stay on the trails like Las Pailas that go around the base of the volcano.
