PA TurnpikeSouthbound Deceleration Ramp, Quakertown Interchange Flatbed Rollover August 15, 2003
Truck is on its right side with trailer twisted almost upside-down.
The load of high pressure wood sheeting spilled down the 75’ hillside (each piece weighs about 80 pounds).
Roadway was cleared so we could start positioning the trucks.
The front truck was a 35 ton NRC and the rear was a Holmes 750.
The Holmes would basically just be helping the rear of the trailer along so it doesn’t whip down.
After the trailer was straightened and brought to an even plane, the front wrecker would hook up and start the up-righting.
As the front wrecker pulled, the rear wrecker assisted the trailer easily on to pavement. Note: One person acts as the coordinator and directs each of the wreckers.
Now just quickly hook and pull it to a safe location.(total road closure time was 9 minutes)
A winch line was strung down and tied off to a tree below……..
then a traveling snatch-block system was used to move piles from the bottom of the hillside.
The piles were loaded onto a small forklift which then transferred them to a larger one down the shoulder.
The larger lift then drove the loads to the interchange to load onto our car carrier for the trip back to the Emmaus yard.
This process went into the afternoon and continued the next morning.
