ADVERB CLAUSE A CLAUSE WHICH FUNCTION AS AN ADVERB
A Clause is part of a sentense, with its own subject and predicate
ADVERB CLAUSE • AN ADVER CLAUSE CAN : 1. come in front of a main clause 2. follow a main clause
THE PATTERNS • A clause which comes in front of a main clause Before / After + S + V, S + V + O/C • A clause which follows a main clause S + V + O/C before/after S + V
EXAMPLES: • 1. Before Ariek studied, she had washed the dishes. • 2. After Randy had watched tv, he went to bed • 3. Ariek had washed the dishes. Before she studied • 4. Randy went to bed After had he watched tv
Before and After can be followed by Gerund Phrase • S + V + O/C Before/ After Gerund Phrase • Before/ After Gerund Phrase, S + V + O/C
EXAMPLES: • We usually pray before eating • My boyfriend came to my home after attending a meeting • Putri ate breakfast before going to school • Cici and her families went to Surabaya after preparing the equipment
Before having dinner, we studied English • Before presenting a topic, we should prepare as well as possible • After recieving money, Lucky left for Jakarta • After listening to the speech, the students must retell the content of it.
