  1. What Do Good Writers Do??? Today we are going to brainstorm a list of what good writers do when they are writing.

  2. Begin making a list in your Writer’s Workshop notebook of what you think good writers do. Then we will come together as a group to add to your list.

Plan ahead Exciting beginnings – put extra effort into the introduction to hook the reader Smooth flowing beginning, middle, and end so the reader will not get lost Strong ending Evaluate – Does your story make sense? Use exciting words by stretching your words (good; stupendous) Illustrations – match the pictures with the words you write Did We Get Them All?

  4. Details – elaborate so that you are not just telling something, you are showing it (The character is unhappy versus showing – The character punches the pilllow.) Sentences are varied and interesting Reread the story when you are finished Write more than 1 draft Share Practice Get ideas from your own personal life experiences Finish one book before starting a new one
