Scheduling Process What to expect: • JHS Counselors visit middle schools to initiate scheduling process • Applications and signatures are completed at home schools • December 19th @ WWMS and HFMS • December 21st @ SMS • Parent signatures required to submit final schedule request
Graduation Requirements English Language Arts -4 credits • English 9 • English 10 • English 11 or AP English Language • English 12, Transition English Language Arts, AP English Literature or Dual Enrollment Mathematics - 4 credits • Math I • Math II • Math III STEM, or Math III LA or Math III TR • Math IV, Math IV TR, Transition Mathematics for Seniors or any other fourth course option (see chart on page 35). • An AP Mathematics course may be substituted for an equivalent course or any fourth course option. • Dual Enrollment
Graduation Requirements Science - 3 credits • Earth and Space Science (Grade 9) • Biology (Grade 10) • One additional lab science course or AP science course Social Studies - 4 credits • World Studies (Grade 9) or an AP Social Studies course • United States Studies (Grade 10) or an AP Social Studies course • An additional Social Studies class or an AP Social Studies course • Civics for the Next Generation or AP Government and Politics. • Physical Education – 1 credit • Health – 1 credit • The Arts* - 1 credit
Graduation Requirements Personalized EducationPlan (PEP) - 4 credits • Each student’s Personalize Education Plan (PEP) will identify course work for the four (4) credits that will lead directly to placement in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses, an industry-recognized certificate or license, or workforce training programs. • Best practices encourage students to take at least 1 AP with corresponding examination, a fourth Science credit, and 2 credits in one World Language, and/or four credits cumulating in acquisition of industry and recognized Career and Technical Education credential focused on career aspirations. Electives - 2 Credits • The remaining graduation requirements are to be electives. When choosing electives, students should consult with their chosen postsecondary educational program to make sure the electives are acceptable.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT • Course is designed to be the equivalent of college introductory class taken by college freshmen. • Course is fast paced, lecture oriented and requires outside reading activities. • Some AP courses are offered via West Virginia Virtual School. • Students are encouraged to take the AP Test in May.
HONORS • Rigorous curriculum for highly motivated and self-disciplined students. • Homework, class participation and projects required (Summer Assignment requirement) • Honors classes demand a high level of student performance and require additional out-of-class time to complete assignments.. • Application Required – completed at your home school
College Preparatory Advanced level course designed to help students further develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Homework required. These classes are approved by the NCAA.

Freshmen Supports Freshmen Academy -Belief at Jefferson High School that Freshmen need additional support to be successful the first year of high school * Commitment to Graduate (C2G) * Class Meetings * Activity Schedule Student Organizations -Freshmen are encouraged to join student organizations the first year to feel committed and a sense of belonging at Jefferson High Targeted for Success -Teachers can refer students to the Targeted for Success Team for additional support
JHS Renaissance • All incoming Freshmen and New Students will receive a Renaissance Card his/her 1st quarter: provides in class incentives, school wide incentives, free entrance to a school event, etc. • Recognizes student birthdays • Recognizes honor roll • Student of the Month • Student Organization (open to all grades!)
