The National Library Service (NLS) is embarking on a major revamp of its circulation and bibliographic information system, CMLS/BPHICS. The upgrade aims to improve accuracy for patrons and machines, enhance data collection capabilities, reduce support efforts for both NLS and libraries, and modernize the outdated system. The preliminary study recommendations include combining CMLS/BPHICS into one system, linking patron and equipment data, improving location tracking, implementing real-time processing, enhancing audit trails, and enabling internet-based transactions. The migration plan, requirements, and specifications are currently in progress, with the goal of sharing the finalized details with circulation system vendors. This upgrade will streamline operations and provide better service to library patrons.
