2018-2019 Show: ‘Into the Light’
John Burns received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Shenandoah University and is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Music Education degree from the University of the Arts. He is currently in his 7th year as the Director of Bands at CRHS South. Under his direction, the marching band has received numerous accolades at state, regional, and national competitions. His public school teaching experience includes 14 years in the NJ, VA, and PA public school systems. His Drum Corps teaching experience includes the 2004 Lehigh Valley Knights, and the 2006 Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. His color guard performance experience includes Dominion Winter Guard, The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, Field of View Winter Guard, Just Class Winter Guard, and the Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard. John and his wife Lauren founded and instructed Impact Independent Winter Guard, from Northern VA and served as their directors from 2008 – 2012. Mr. Burns also established the award-winning Winter Guard here at CR South. Mr. Burns frequently serves as a consultant and drill writer for bands in PA and VA. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, PA Music Educators Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi. MEET THE DIRECTOR
Council Rock Band Parent Association-South (CRBPAS) The objective of the Council Rock Band Parent Association South (CRBPAS) is to support the Marching Band and its entities, and to enable each student member to have a valuable and enjoyable experience. Through the hard work of its many dedicated members, CRBPAS provides support for the members of Council Rock South Marching Band and its entities in the way of uniforms, equipment, transportation, snacks and food, concerts, recognition and other activities.

CRBPAS relies on DONATIONS and VOLUNTEERS We are counting on your donations to support all of our events. Our expectation is for a member of every family to volunteer in personat least twice during the 2019 – 20 school year. Volunteer Clearances Who is required to have clearances? Pursuant to Act153 of 2014: beginning 7/1/15 an adult working as an unpaid volunteer responsible for the welfare of a child or having direct contact with children is required to have clearances. “Direct contact” is defined under the act as: the care, supervision, guidance or control of children, or routine interaction with children. (All clearances are valid for 60 months.)
Once you have received your clearances they must be submitted to Monica McLaughlin at Council Rock School District. ALL of the clearances (all 3 parts) must be submitted together! Hold your child responsible for being prepared. They learn to be responsible when they have to be. NETWORK and CARPOOL CHEER!!! The band’s cheering section helps them keep their energy up and will help them put their best foot forward. Drop your child off at least 15 min before rehearsal time. The time listed is the time that they need to be ready to begin rehearsing, not the time that they should arrive. “Rehearsal ends at X O-clock” means they stop rehearsing at that time. Realize that there may still be announcements, clean up, or other end of It will usually be at least 15 additional minutes before your child is actually ready to leave.
