Workshop Objectives • Overview of Practitioner and Facility Permit requirements • Review proposed fees • Notification of Board of Supervisors hearing (May 8, 2012) • Invite stakeholders to join working group
Timeline • 1998 – Tattoo registration mandated in CA. • Body Art legislation in CA • AB 517 vetoed Oct 2009 • AB 223 vetoed Sept 2010 • AB 300 - CA Safe Body Art Act becomes effective July 1, 2012. • Stakeholder work group was formed. • 15 training sessions have been provided statewide by body art professionals. EMD hosted a workshop on Feb. 15, 2012.
Practitioner Registration Requirements • Applies to practitioners engaging in the application of tattoos, permanent cosmetics, body piercing, and branding • Bloodborne Pathogen Training (2 hrs/year) • Vaccination verification or declination form • File registration with Sacramento County EMD
Body Art Facilities Requirements • Infection Prevention and Control Plan • Provide training • Sharps containers, clean and sanitary, adequate lighting • Sinks in procedure area and sterilization area • Test sterilization equipment monthly • Health permit required - annual renewal/fee • One inspection per year starting July 2012 • Self inspection checklist • Sample application
Other Requirements of Body Art Act • Age requirements • Client informational questionnaires • Sanitation practices • Vehicles • Temporary facilities/events
Enforcement • Reinspections • Health permit or practitioner registration may be suspended or revoked for severe and/or repeated violations of applicable laws • Performing body art without registration may result in a penalty of $25-$1000.
