Philosophy of Education My main goal is to help children become lifelong lovers of learning by: • Encouraging risk-taking • Meeting students where they are • Engaging students in active discovery of new knowledge through the use of technology • Becoming young people who are kind, who care and do their BEST

Class Social Contract • Values and Principles • David’s Law David’s law applies to bullying that takes place on school property, during any school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a vehicle operated by the school district (i.e. a bus). Additionally, David’s law includes cyberbullying that occurs off campus and outside of a school-sponsored or related activity if: • it interferes with a student’s educational opportunities; or, • substantially disrupts the orderly operation of a classroom, school, or school-sponsored or school-related activity. • Bucket Fillers and Not Bucket Dippers • Consequences
Curriculum: ELA • 4th Grade Reading (Realistic Fiction, Non-Fiction, Historical Fiction, Poetry) Our BLB (Book Lovers Book) is our working document. • Students must read for 30 minutes per day at home and record on reading log • Time for Kids Magazine -------------------------------------------------------------------- • Writer’s Notebook (Mini-Lessons and Grammar & Drafts) (Narrative, Expository, Lit Essays, Poetry) • Writing Process • Spelling- Non-Negotiables & Word Study • Projects: Penny Book

Homework • Monday-Thursday: Read 30 minutes and record on reading log (sticky notes) • Math and TFK: Morning work (becomes homework if they do not finish) • Weekend-Encouraged to read • They MUST master multiplication facts – please work with them at home • Agenda and Communication Folder-Parent Communication (Friday folders will be the Yellow Communication Folders) • Clean Card Party (2 Signatures is a “clean card” during the first nine weeks) • At home, set time and place for homework/reading

Grading System Students will be assessed on 3-2-1 scale. • 3 – Mastery of Learning Target A child can independently tie their shoes with mastery. * 2.5 - No major errors or omissions regarding 2 content and partial knowledge of the 3 content A child can tie their shoes, but need help securing them. • 2 – Approaching Mastery of Learning Target A child can tie their shoes with help *1.5 - Partial knowledge of the 2 content, but major errors or omissions regarding the 3 content Can make the first loop of tying their shoe. • 1 – Insufficient Progress Even with help, a child cannot tie their shoes • X – Target is Not Assessed at this Time Standards Based Report Card 4th Grade Guide
Important Information • Please check calendar when planning doctor’s appointments or family trips • Please give notice if you are picking up child early • Conference time is 9:20-10:20 (except Wednesdays and Thursdays- team meetings) • Meet with team weekly to plan/discuss; consistency • Promptness is important- 7:50 • Library is open from 7:50-8:25 and 3:00-3:30 for checkout • Eagle Store
