  14. Copper to Gold Lab Precautions • Concentrated Hydrochloric acid is very corrosive to your skin and body tissues. • Note: If you touch it or it spills, notify me IMMEDIATELY. Goggles ON at all times • No loose clothing, use cotton, tie hair back

  16. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure 1. Clean most of the penny with steel wool. Get it as shiny as possible

  17. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure • Clean most of the penny with steel wool. Get it as shiny as possible • Carefully SLIP the penny into the evaporating dish with HCl

  18. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure 3. Clean most of the penny with steel wool. Get it as shiny as possible 4. Carefully SLIP the penny into the evaporating dish with HCl 5. Wait until the penny looks shiny and new 6. Carefully fish out your penny with your forceps, rinse with water

  19. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure 7. Figure out a way of testing the penny before conversion 8. Slip the penny into the Secret Solution 9. Place the secret solution on top of the Ring Stand and Gauze

  20. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure 10. Figure out a way of testing the penny before conversion • Slip the penny into the Secret Solution • Place the secret solution on top of the Ring Stand and Gauze • Light Your Burner and SLOWLY heat the Secret Solution

  21. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure • DO NOT ALLOW THE Secret Solution TO BOIL. If it begins to do so remove the heat • Wait until the penny has turned completely silver-Call me for the go ahead to proceed to the next step • Gently clean the Secret Solution off of the Silver Penny

  22. Copper to Gold Lab Procedure • Gently heat the Silver Penny with the Bunsen Burner by rotating it in and out of the flame with the Tongs until the Silver Penny has been converted to Gold • Figure out a way to determine if it is Gold
