Stretch Marks • Stretch marks are caused by tearing the dermis. • muscle growth, weight gain, or hormonal changes. • Appear everywhere, but most commonly found near fatty areas. • Do not pose a health concern and do not interfere with the body’s normal functions.
Preventing/Treatment of Stretch Marks • Possibilities: Topical Ointments (Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, or Cantella Asiatica) • More Permanent: “Tummy Tuck”, dermabrasion, perscription retinoids, and laser treatments.
Keloid • Scarring that raises above the skin level • Often confused with hypertrophic scars • Do not subside (fade away) • Can be itchy, painful, or sensitive on any level. • Most common on chest, back, shoulders, and earlobes. • Most common with darker skin.
Prevention/Treatment of Keloidal Scars • Surgical removal (though may result in another keloidal scar) • Cortisone Injections • Laser • Silicone Sheets & Freezing • Injection & Radiation
