Learning Objectives • To understand how quality of life is different from standard of living. • To know the different ways wealth and poverty are measured.
Quality of Life: a measure of your happiness. What influences the QUALITY of your life?
Standard of Living • As a person’s quality of life is hard to measure and it changes so often a person’s standard of living needs to be measured so the Government knows where needs the most help. Your task: In pairs, think of all the ways we can MEASURE standard of living.
Types of Poverty • Income poverty – if your income is less than 60% of the UK average • Fuel Poverty – more than 10% of income is spent on energy bills In the UK: • 3.9 million children live in poverty • Half of single parents live in poverty • 22% of all households live in poverty • 19% of all pensioners live in poverty Give three reasons why a household might experience poverty
