Progress to date • Measurement requirements set • Lead Centre instigated at Lindenberg, Germany • 15 initial sites globally • Mixed instrumentation capabilities • Different climatic zones • Definition of GRUAN reference measurement published in peer reviewed literature • Estimate + uncertainty (all known systematics removed, tracability) • Based on Guide to Uncertainty in Measurements
Future plans • Near term (next 6-12 months) • GRUAN measurements for in situ RS92 soundings served through NCDC and reprocessed to extent possible. • GRUAN measures for CFH/FPH soundings to follow • Collection and retention of raw data for remaining observations at all stations (locally or centrally) to allow future reprocessing. Data may be available for use but does NOT presently constitute a GRUAN measure. • Completion of manual of operations • Longer term • Expansion of GRUAN measures to remote sensing capabilities (GNSS-IWV, Lidar, FTIR etc.). • Expansion of network • Resolving remaining science questions • Scheduling • Collocation of measures • Etc.
