Users can access the files and services through this server but no user would be using QuickBooks on the server. 2) Peer to Peer Hosting – It has similar features as dedicated hosting apart from the fact that a user can also use QuickBooks from the server. 3) Alternate Hosting – Since the server used in this type may or may not be solely dedicated to hosting, it changes its state from dedicated to peer to peer hosting. The files stored on the server can be accessed but upon fulfilment of the following three conditions: • Wi?do?s File per?issio?s – The user must have the full permission set for the file to look at, open and modify. • Server – The database server can successfully open the files. • Qui?kBooks Logi? – Each QuickBooks user must have a valid login id and password. Hosting Modes: For the multiple versions of QuickBooks 2014 or later, the hosting mode setting is independent for each.

  3. 1) No Hosting – QuickBooks database server manager runs as a normal process as the user running QuickBooks Desktop. This mode does not support multi- user mode. It uses shared memory to communicate with QuickBooks Desktop. It starts as the user logs in and stops as he/she logs out. • This ?ode also supports the ?ulti-user mode, using TCP/IP communicate with QuickBooks Desktop Server. Same point as above mentioned. • A lo?al ?o?puter in this mode can host files stored on it, as well as files that are located on remote computers and opened on the local computer.   4. 1. QuickBooks Desktop looks for the .nd file. The .nd file is a small text file with the same name as the company file, but with an .nd file extension. This file is located in the same directory as the company file, which has the file extension .qbw. The directory also contains the information needed to contact the server, such as the IP address and port. 2. QuickBooks Desktop determines whether the .qbw file is in use. 3. If QuickBooks Desktop finds the .nd file and detects that the company file is in use, QuickBooks Desktop tries to communicate with the server: 4. If it is successful, QuickBooks Desktop opens the company file. 5. If it's not successful, an error message that describes the steps needed to resolve the issue appears.
