Loma Project Texas A&M University – Loma Oil Co. Mirko Hernandez
Questions • Original Oil In Place ? • Cumulative Production ? • => Remaining Oil ? • => If so, propose alternatives to extract it.
First Objectives • Geological description • Build structural maps • Top, base, thickness • Build trend maps • Porosity, permeability • Production history • Cumulative, daily – monthly
What we know so far…. • Lease Name: Jacob • Location: District 1, Mc Mullen County, San Antonio. • First Well drilled: 1-A (1931).- Gas Well • Discovery Oil Well: 2-A (1932). Flowed 250 bopd initially. • Leases incorporated in the project: “A”, “W”, “F” and “B” Mc Mullen
Maps • Original Map • Coordinates: referred to lease survey lines
Maps • Digitized Map: OFM • Coordinates: All wells referred to a point of reference • Wells on production: 17 (as of as April 2002) • Oil production: 86 Bls/month (as of as July 2002)
Storing data • Database created in Access • Well Data • Core Record • Drilling sampling description
What we have found digging into files…. • Number of well files: 130 • Wells recorded as “plugged and abandoned”: 51 • Wells recorded as “Dry Hole”: 18 • Number of wells with core data: 24 • Number of wells with logs: 10 • Wells with BHP: 1 (E-1 @ 10200’) .- No well file!
What we have found digging into files…. • TVD: 125 wells @ 1000’. 3 Wells @ 2000’ (Dry holes). 1 Well @ 3000’ (Dry hole). • Main sand: Pettus
And… • Cumulative Production data: 26338 Bbl (Jan 93 – Jul 02) • Data obtained from the Rail Road Commission of Texas: • Jan 93: 688 Bbls • July 02: 86 Bbls • Production Data in files: from 1974 to 2002.- Not accurate • One test per well yearly!!! (“Oil Well Status Report”)
Next Steps…. • Maps: Well Status – load in OFM • Logs: digitize and load in database => correlate to sampling description • Structural map for “pettus” sand (pay zone) • Maps: Permeability, Porosity => trends • Production data: Cumulative production for the lease
