(Update Express System Pack Installer) Massive Distribution Of Firmware UpdatesUsing UXSPI Pxe Package Deploy Using RDM 4.30 As A PXE Server July, 2009 Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
What Does It Good For? • Masive distribution of firmware updates: • You can boot multiple Server Systems (Blades etc.) at the same time without dealing with physical CD-ROMs and Media Tray of Blade Center Chassis. • You do not have to deal with building scripts for individual firmware updates anymore • Easy update collecting & easy deployment • Clasic alternative tool for the traditional (RDM) firmware deployment method Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Prerequisites /phases /Limitation Prerequisites • RDM 4.30 (will not work with 4.40) Phases • Create pxe package for your blades using UpdateXpress System Pack Installer for Microsoft Windows • Create a custom Task to load bootstrap pxelinux.0 Limitation • Systems will not give Feedback to RDM Task Activation (The Task will timeout, but you could integrate the rdagent.exe in your UXSPI pxe package to give feedback to RDM) Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Phase #1 Create UXSPI PXE Package Run the IBM UpdateXpress System Pack Installer Hit to launch the ToolCenter Bootable Media Center (BOMC) Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Step 1. Hit Next Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Step 2. Make sure to select all the check boxes Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Step 3. Choose Latest Available Individual Updates Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)

Step 8. Wait For the Process to finish and Open The target Diretory Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Copy the files into the pxedir to the repository dir Copy the files from the pxedir into the repository dir, usualy located in: C:\Program Files\IBM\RDM\repository Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
Phase #2 Create a Custom Task in RDM Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)

Screenshot #4 Now Updates Will Automatically Start When Countdown reaches 0 At this point you can disconnect your RDM Server machine and run the process on other Blade Center. The UXSPI is runing from the blade ram drive. Author: Yossi Swisa / IBM Israel (zsy@il.ibm.com)
