Achievements of past year • Priority within the City of Whittlesea Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2009-2013 • Internal and community awareness raising activities • series of “Blokes BBQ’s” for staff at three sites including the depot • distribution of WRD bookmarks through local libraries • press conference attended by the CEO, Mayor, Victorian Police and local media. • Strong Council representation at the 2009 Northern Region WRD Leader’s Lunch demonstrated a strong level of support for prevention of VAW throughout the organisation.
Achievements of past year • Convening the Whittlesea Domestic Violence Network (WDVN) developing a range of community initiatives including support, advocacy and awareness raising. • Council actively involved in network activities across the Northern region including development and distribution of family violence Help Cards. • White Ribbon Day activities including ‘Blokes Barbeques’ featuring guest speaker Phil Cleary • bumper stickers featuring the ‘Not Violence, Not Silent’ message and social marketing campaigns.
Achievements of past year • White Ribbon Day 2010 • Sexual Violence Taskforce (2006 - 2008) • Yarra City Council’s work around violence prevention and gender equity was prioritised with the development of the Sexual Violence Taskforce (SVT) and Implementation Plan in 2006. • Women’s Health and Wellbeing (2009 – current) • Appointment of a dedicated es, hosts and participates in a range of internal and external activities, aimed at raising awareness of the issues and promoting the key messages of the violence prevention campaign. • Gender Equality • Gender reporting toolkit and training resource
Achievements of past year • Local Government Gender Equity Working Group with Maribyrnong, Darebin, Yarra, Hume and Knox, plus VicHealth and Monash University are working on an effective approach for gendered reported that can be utilised at all Councils. • Yarra Family Violence Network • Projects include ‘Help Cards Talking Tour’ and the ‘Collingwood Living in Harmony Pilot Project’. • Yarra Committee for Women • Women from key community, business, CALD and Indigenous organisations in Yarra coming together to discuss ways of developing effective leadership development training and seminar opportunities for ALL women in Yarra. • Celebrating International Women’s Day
